“How Sweet it Is?: Honey Authentication and Why Even Hobbyist Beekeepers Should be Concerned”

Pre-meeting Question & Answer session will start at 6:00 PM.

At 7:00 pm the club meeting will begin.  Our  special guest speaker will be Jim Gawenis.  James (Jim) Gawenis, PhD (2001) is an instrumental analytical chemist with over twenty-five years of experimental and research experience in his field. He co-founded CassIan, Inc., the parent company of Sweetwater Science Labs, in 2013 with his wife, Lara (also a PhD scientist with over twenty years’ experience). He is currently the CEO and Chief Chemist of Sweetwater Science Labs, a laboratory dedicated to ensuring honey that reaches the market is pure, unadulterated, and free of pesticides and antibiotics. The laboratory continues to research and create new ways by which beekeepers and honey producers can ensure their products are ready for market — while helping them watch their bottom line.

A special addition to the meeting will be an annual inter-club honey tasting and honey exchange.  Please bring an approximately 1 lb jar of your honey including your label.   You will get to pick a fellow beekeepers’ jar to take home.
