At 7:00 pm the club meeting will begin.  Our special guest speaker will be Dr. Ana R. Cabrera.  She will be discussing “Pollen resources for honey bees in urban and suburban areas” from her recently published manuscript “Seasonal variation of pollen collected by honey bees (Apis mellifera) in developed areas across four regions in the United States<https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0217294>.”

More about Ana R. Cabrera, Ph.D.:  Ana was born and raised in Guatemala. Upon completing her undergraduate program in Agronomy, she came to the United States for Graduate School.  Ana completed a master’s degree in Integrated Pest Management at the University of Illinois, and a doctorate in Entomology from North Carolina State University.  Ana started researching honeybees during her postdoc position at the USDA-ARS research center in Gainesville, Florida, where she focused her research on the Varroa mite, a honey bee ectoparasite and the number one problem for the beekeeping industry worldwide. For the last six years, Ana has been working at Bayer CropScience as a Scientist in the Pollinator Safety group providing support to the registration of plant protection products, overseeing laboratory, semi-field and field studies for regulatory purposes, leading efforts for test method development with non-Apis bees (bumble bees, solitary bees), and as a liaison to academia and other stakeholders for collaborative research projects.
