Three Rivers Beekeepers and the University of Missouri Extension Center for St. Charles County are offering a 3-part Beginning Beekeeper Class this spring.  Come learn about the wonderful honeybee and how to manage them and their home, the beehive.

In three class sessions, you’ll learn from experienced beekeepers, videos, written material, and hands-on demonstrations.  You’ll receive full instructions on the kinds of equipment you need, where to get it and where to get your bees. You’ll also be invited to join Three Rivers Beekeepers for continuing education and mentoring.

The classes will cover the following topics:

  • Honeybee Biology
  • Basics of the Hive
  • Basic Beekeeping Equipment
  • Purchasing and Assembling Hive Equipment
  • Obtaining and Installing Honeybees
  • Inspecting and Managing the Hives
  • Solving Common Beekeeping Problems
  • Preparing Your Hives for Honey Collection
  • Harvesting Honey
  • Natural-Organic Beekeeping Techniques

WHEN:   Friday, February 24th, 2012 (6pm – 9pm), Saturday, February 25thth (9am – 6pm), and Sunday, February 26th (2pm – 6pm).
