Smoker

Postby Flotown » Fri Nov 04, 2011 12:06 pm

Does anyone have a recommendation for a smoker? I have a Dadant 4x7 but can't get the lid to close on it so the smoke comes out the sides.
Thanks for any suggestions.

My smoker had a tar buildup that I cleaned off with turpentine and steel wool that kept it from closing. I think all smokers will go through this and it is not attributed to a particular brand.

I got a wire brush thing for my drill. That did a good job cleaning the tar off. The smoker closes much better now. Thanks for the tip:)

Over time my smoker has a buildup and prevents the lid from closing. I have found that by taking a plumbers blow torch (Propane torch that can be purchased at your local hardware store) and heating up the lid it will turn the buildup into ash and can be cleaned up easily. I just cleaned my smoker up last week and the lid closes as when it was new.
Hope this helps
